Originally from Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, my first taste of clay was during my Pre-BA Foundation Course at Batley School of Art and Design. Inspired by this medium I went on to study a BA Honours degree at the University of Wales, Institute of Cardiff, graduating in 2007.
Since graduating I have continued to develop my ceramic practice and have helped set up PICA Studios.
Founded in 2017, and set within an 18th century printworks in the centre of historic York, PICA Studios is an artist led studio collective of 23 artists, makers, writers and thinkers.
Through my work I explore the playful relationship between form and surface decoration. The vessel is my primary
interest, created by building and collaging slabs of textured clay together. Drawing inspiration from my 2D paper
collages and sketches I translate this process into clay, building up layer upon layer of slips and glazes. The finished vessels have a similar graphic quality to them, with bold colour, strong line and intuitive mark making.
I exhibit my contemporary ceramics in exhibitions, events and galleries around the UK.
